Yesterday, October 11, evidently saw some of the worst flooding in Roanoke history, as the remnants of Hurricane Michael dropped massive amounts of rain in the region.
I had flown just past the storm at the crack of dawn yesterday, to spend Auburn’s fall break in Mobile with our daughter.
Leading up to the flight, I had watched the weather carefully. And the plane from Roanoke to Atlanta was held at the gate for twenty minutes so that the storms could clear around our destination. And yes, there was rain (and a bumpy ride) on either end of the flight.

But as we drove toward Mobile Bay, we heard stories about closed roads, closed government buildings, and swift water rescues back home. It’s hard to comprehend from so far away.
